Many other instruments use just one frequency, which cannot derive mass concentration from scattered sound without knowledge of particle radius. The AQUAscat 1000 uses multiple-frequency acoustic signals to obtain a range of backscatter data to determine profiles of mean sediment size. From this, suspended sediment concentration profiles are provided using the powerful AQUAscat Toolkit software delivered with every instrument.

The cabled transducers provide versatile deployment options, allowing optimal positioning away from structures and other acoustic instruments.
Our Survey model, the AQUAscat 1000S, features four fixed integrated transducers operating at different frequencies. Designed for comprehensive sediment transport studies, it offers versatile applications, including suspended sediment profiling, precision altimetry, dredge plume monitoring, and turbulence measurements. The instrument’s programmable spatial intervals and long-term deployment capability make it ideal for various underwater research scenarios.
Optimised for laboratory use and flume-suspended particle research, the AQUAscat 1000L offers exceptional versatility with its wide range of transducer frequencies and adjustable parameters. This model provides the same flexibility as the AQUAscat 1000R, with cabled transducers enabling adaptable deployments within controlled environments.
Designed for efficient suspended sediment concentration measurements, the self-contained AQUAscat 1000LT features two fixed integrated transducers. This unique configuration allows for dual-frequency measurements, enhancing the instrument’s ability to deliver suspended sediment profiles.
The AQUAscat 1000R Deep features a titanium housing suitable for depths of up to 6,000 m. It has been designed for deep sea suspended sediment monitoring. This specialised version of the flagship research model comes with four cabled transducers, providing an adjustable resolution of 2.5 mm to 4 cm. The device also incorporates integrated temperature and pressure sensors. Deep-sea battery options enable long-term deployments for situations where a local power source is not available, ensuring continuous operation in remote locations.
