The long-standing Marine Measurement Forum—MMF—is a series of one-day, non-profit-making events that provide excellent opportunities for networking and the informal exchange of ideas, knowledge, techniques and developments across an extensive range of marine scientific measurement activities.

THE EXPERIENCE
During an MMF day, a series of short presentations on diverse marine measurement topics are interspersed with refreshment breaks that offer delegates the chance to network with like-minded colleagues. Businesses and Institutions across the UK ocean technology sector take turns organising MMF meetings. Subsea communications expert and specialist on turbidity and sediment monitoring technology, Aquatec, was selected to host the latest event, aptly themed Innovation in Measurement.

A beautiful sunny morning greeted more than 50 guests as they arrived at Aquatec’s venue of choice on November 30th. Set against the peaceful scenery of Heckfield Village, north of Hampshire, and more precisely within the historical perimeter of Highfield Park Manor—an estate that dates back as far as 1166—we kicked off Marine Measurement Forum’s 65th edition. The memorable experience featured live presentations and professional insights from 15 marine technology experts.

After a warm welcome message from Andy Smerdon, Aquatec’s founder and Managing Director—as well as a former long-time member of the Forum’s Steering Committee—and a brief introduction by the company´s Marketing Manager and day host, Agustín Riso, the well-rounded scientific programme comprising four rounds of specialist speakers, with Q&A panels at the end of each one, officially started.

At lunchtime, MMF Steering Committee member Philip Bishop provided the guests with an update and announced that the next event, MMF66, will take place in the Summer of 2023 and will be hosted by the National Centre for Coastal Autonomy, a partnership between Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML), the University of Plymouth and The Marine Biological Association.
